In 1995 a boiler explosion on a steam locomotive operated by a tourist railroad resulted in serious injury to the crew and extensive damage to the locomotive. Two years later, a video was produced that was intended to serve as an instructional tool to promote safe operating practices for engineers and firemen on steam locomotives. This video reviews the daily pre-operation inspection tasks along with tasks performed while the locomotive is being operated that must be completed by the engine crew to ensure safety. Now, a decade later, this video has been re-mastered in digital format and is available as a DVD. Steam locomotive crewmembers and supervisors should regularly review and be familiar with the contents of this video. |
